Wesley Jones
Office Manager & Special Projects Innovator
Wesley is an avid suicide prevention advocate and is committed to helping people recover after their attempts. He has a bachelor's degree in psychology and philosophy, and has focused interest in PTSD, trauma, suicide postvention supports, and dissociative disorders. His professional background includes working in an Indigenous addiction and mental health treatment facility for female youth, working with high-risk youth in group homes, and doing behavioural therapy in schools. He has done some public speaking on suicide to service providers, children, and the public. On a volunteer basis, Wesley fills his time working towards the creation of suicide-related supports in the Edmonton zone. He actively volunteers with Living Hope, Edmonton’s suicide prevention strategy on both the steering and high-risk committees. He also volunteers with the Peer Working Group under the Wellness Network and co- chairs a suicide attempt survivor subcommittee. He has currently developed a skills development and personal growth course for attempt survivors; and has a handful of other courses in development. He has also started a structured therapy program for attempt survivors, which continues to be the only one of its kind in western Canada. In his personal life, Wesley is always enjoying using his brain. Whether it be through reading research articles on suicide, doing crosswords, or delving into a multitude of fictional worlds in written and visual formats, his internal world is always active. He also enjoys moving and doing things like walking, hiking, target shooting, weightlifting, and cycling. He tends to disappear into interesting topics for days at a time whether it be quantum mechanics, social innovation, automotive performance, innovative technologies, or wilderness survival.
